Curriculum Vision

Our curriculum vision underpins the experiences, knowledge, and skills that shape every child’s learning journey at Stanbridge.

At Stanbridge, we believe that a joyful, enriching childhood and academic excellence are not mutually exclusive—they are equally essential. Our curriculum is the heartbeat of our school, designed to nurture aspiration, belonging, courage and creativity in every learner. Through knowledge-rich content and memorable experiences, our children are empowered to become confident, compassionate individuals who contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

Our curriculum creates thinkers, risk-takers, leaders and collaborators—because when children feel they belong, they are brave enough to be brilliant.

Intent

Our curriculum is purposefully crafted to meet the needs of our children and our community. Rooted in academic rigour and enriched with experiences that make learning unforgettable, our curriculum:

  • Provides the powerful knowledge children need to understand the world
  • Builds confidence, resilience and creativity through enquiry, challenge and play
  • Develops a strong sense of identity and inclusion, where every child feels seen and valued
  • Celebrates our local context while preparing children for life beyond it
  • Promotes equity and opportunity for all learners, regardless of background or need

By Year 6, our children will have published writing, performed on stage, experienced university life, and camped under the stars. They will have grown food in our allotment, mentored younger peers, and developed the social and academic strength to succeed in secondary school and beyond.

Our curriculum vision is lived every day—in every lesson, every story, every question asked, and every joyful moment experienced. At Stanbridge, we are building futures where education uplifts, relationships empower, and joy is non-negotiable.

At Stanbridge, our curriculum is cyclical and linked. Through our Linked Learning subjects —science, history, geography, art, and DT—we revisit key ideas in deepening layers so knowledge is strengthened, extended and interconnected, not than stored in isolation. Each return point secures retrieval, while carefully planned cross-subject links enable our pupils to recognise patterns and develop their learning as a single, coherent narrative.

Across each unit, component knowledge is sequenced so that every lesson purposefully prepares for the next and the unit culminates in a high-quality outcome that demonstrates the knowledge and skills developed through the learning sequence. As a result, Stanbridge pupils talk confidently about the links in their learning and leave us with a durable, well-connected understanding and the habits to keep building it.

Our curriculum sparks curiosity and builds resilience, children are encouraged to wonder, question and persevere. By linking ideas and revisiting them in richer forms, we nurture a joy of learning that endures, so Stanbridge pupils leave us eager, confident explorers, ready to keep discovering long after primary school.

This intent is underpinned by a research-informed lesson structure used in every subject. Lessons open with reactivate retrieval, followed by explicit vocabulary instruction that equips children with the language needed for the session. Teachers present new content in small, ordered steps with live modelling, before guided practice allows collaboration and immediate feedback. In independent tasks, children first secure fluency, then apply new knowledge to different contexts. A brief reflection phase closes the loop, prompting pupils to articulate how today’s learning connects to what they already know. Consistency across classrooms maximises time for encoding, storing and recalling information, so that all children remember more.

Our pupils leave us having experienced excellent teaching and rich, memorable opportunities that inspire creativity and resilience. They move on ready to fulfil their potential, confident in their unique talents and fully prepared for life beyond Stanbridge.
